Given the lack of college football games this week, Army/Navy is literally the only game for week 15, we’ve decided to break down one of the greatest rivalries in football this weekend. Thanks to all the brave men and women who risk their lives to protect our freedom. Keep your eyes peeled for next week’s Bowl Week Bets where DPJ and I will provide you with our favorites bets of Week 16 along with our favorite teams to win every bowl game on the slate.
Go Army! Beat Navy!
Best of the Best Bets – DPJ & Q approved (11-10 Overall; 9-2 since Week 7)
Army vs Navy – Saturday, 12/11 (3:00 PM EST)
Pick: 6 Point Teaser: Army -1, Total Points Under 43 (-110 odds)
8-3 vs 3-8. Expect quite a few similarities out of these two teams when they square off at MetLife Stadium this weekend. Both teams love to pound the ball, neither team has an elite passing attack (although Army’s passing game has improved drastically this year) and both teams should be breaking out new uniforms to fire the boys up. Army has had Navy’s number as of late, winning 4 out of the last 5 and pitching a 15-0 shutout against the Midshipmen last year. That said, Navy still leads the rivalry overall at 61-53-7 and these two teams haven’t combined for more than 41 points since 2011. The Army pick is simple, this is one of the better Army teams in recent history on both sides of the ball and it will be a very tall task for this Navy squad (obviously having a down year) to keep up. Army is rocking one of the best rushing games in the country this year led by electric senior Christian Anderson and their defense has held opponents this year to 22.8 points. I’m taking the 6 points in the teaser instead of taking the Black Knights spread at -7 purely out of caution due to the fact that this is clearly a heated rivalry and records/stats tend to go out the window when these two teams battle it out for the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy.
I know I already mentioned this but it feels worth highlighting again, these two teams haven’t combined for more than 41 points since 2011. Navy might be 3-8 but that could honestly make them more dangerous given the fact that they have nothing to lose and this is their last shot at salvaging their otherwise disappointing season. I can promise you Navy will not roll over at any point of this game and should keep Army’s offense in check enough to at least avoid a blowout. Combine that fight with Navy’s inability to score points on offense and you get another high likelihood of the under trend continuing.
Rolling with the recent trends for this heated rivalry this year, expect Army to pull out another victory in low scoring fashion. – Q
