Well, I feel like I just played a round at Oak Hill… Rough start but we live to fight another day. Best thing about the best players in the world? They bounce back. Time to cash in on their resiliency. Bet smarter, not harder.
2nd Round 3 Ball Matchups
Wyndham Clark (-190) (1 unit) vs Wyatt Worthington vs Nico Echavarria
Doubling down here despite Clark’s 1st round woes… Again, Worthington is simply a PGA instructor and Echavarria is getting the first taste of major championship golf in his entire career this week. Clark is 27th on tour in 2nd Round Scoring Average and Echavarria is 161st (Worthington isn’t even listed given his, status). Expect Clark to really turn it on Friday in a last ditch effort to make the weekend.
Scottie Scheffler (-115) (0.6 units) vs Brooks Koepka (+210) (0.4 units) vs Gary Woodland
Scheffler’s got it going early and Koepka is hanging in there. Woodland is usually inferior to this duo and Thursday’s opening round was no exception. Splitting a unit between Scheffler/Koepka with the expectation of Scheffler winning the group but the respect for Koepka’s prowess in majors (specifically PGA Championships). Woodland hit some good shots today but he’s going to need a lot more to win one of the better groups to start the tournament (which I don’t see happening).
Tom Kim (+145) (0.6 units) vs Sam Burns (+150) (0.4 units) vs Abraham Ancer
Kim won this group on Thursday despite the mudslide incident early on but I think he’s got much better golf in store for us on Friday (5th on tour in 2nd Round Scoring Average). Burns looked decent so I’m hedging him a bit just to make sure we at least break even if Kim faces another absurd incident tomorrow… Ancer looks primed for missing the weekend and Burns is only 160th on tour in 2nd Round Scoring Average… I like our odds for another Kim victory.
2nd Round Prop Bets
Jon Rahm To Shoot 70 or Better (-105) (1 unit)
The best player in the world is currently 2 shots off making the cut line heading into his second round at Oak Hill. Rahm is 1st overall on tour in 2nd Round Scoring Average and being so close to the cut line you know he’s going to come out firing on Friday. The only book I’ve seen actually release a line on Rahm’s score today is FanDuel and they didn’t release it until about an hour ago (Rahm tees off at 1:58 PM EST). This makes me think that most books are scared of what Rahm can do today…. Bank on the bounce back from the current world #1 today!
