2023 Masters 3rd Round Bets

The golf gods giveth and the golf gods taketh away… Given the immediate turnaround today we’ll spare you the excuses (Jason Day’s meltdown, Phil heard our call out, etc). Let’s move the needle on moving day. Bet smarter, not harder.

3rd Round Bets

Joaquin Niemann (+150) (0.5 units) vs Phil Mickelson (+240) (0.5 units) vs Gary Woodland

I’m not totally eating crow on my Phil take from yesterday but I do have to respect how consistent he seems to be playing this week. Niemann could be much higher up on the leaderboard if it wasn’t for his putter and Woodland is just happy to make the cut. Splitting a unit across Niemann and Phil to fade Woodland.

Scottie Scheffler (+130) (0.5 units) vs Tony Finau (+160) (0.5 units) vs Tommy Fleetwood

It hasn’t been Scottie’s week thus far but you can’t keep the #1 golfer in the world down for too long. While I doubt he goes super low today given the conditions, I do think he’ll still gain ground on the leaderboard. Finau ranks 1st in the remaining field for 3rd Round Scoring Average and he’s looked great this week with the exception of a few holes. Spreading a unit across the most likely bounce back candidate and #1 moving day scoring average player for Saturday.

Patrick Cantlay (-120) (1 unit) vs Adam Scott

Cantlay actually looks half decent this week despite the pressure of playing in a major (which has been a significant hurdle throughout his career up to this point). Cantlay ranks 4th in the remaining field in 3rd Round Scoring Average (5th overall on tour) and Adam Scott doesn’t feel like a true contender this week. Backing Cantlay to make a move on moving day.
