Week 1 is in the books and man did it set the tone for our fantasy football league this season.
Just as a reminder, DPJ and I are battling it out head to head all season with two mega teams in the quest to win the Arbitrage League trophy and avoid having to eat a considerable amount of Grade D beef in truly disgusting fashion. We will keep you updated on our triumphs and tribulations on a weekly basis as well as provide you our weekly waiver wire advice like only sidehustlebetsmjq.com can.
One week down, one victory in the books for my squad of future hall of famers (267.5 – 263.28). DPJ’s rag tag group of misfits gave it their all and there’s a lot to be said for that. Ultimately however, their efforts were overcome by superior talent and the deafening sound of destiny.
I’d like to take this opportunity to shout out my absolute superstars, Kyler Murray and Tyreek Hill. Both players put up over 30 points this week, effortlessly imposed their will on the opposition and shot fear into the hearts of every starter on DPJ’s team. I feel absolutely fantastic about my Kyler Murray MVP futures bet and I fully expect Tyreek to keep proving he’s the best WR in the league on a weekly basis. All stars aside, this was truly a team effort and the depth on this roster is staggering (I see you Amari Cooper/Adam Thielen). The best players will play and it is my sacred responsibility to uphold that concept for this championship caliber squad throughout the season (get it together James Robinson/Mark Andrews/Najee Harris). Shout out to Lamar Jackson as well for graciously fumbling twice in crunch time and solidifying the W for us, couldn’t have done it without you!
Take a peek at the official Week 1 scoring breakdown at the bottom of this article if you’re curious what championship pedigree looks like.
Waiver Wire Pickups:
Ty’son Williams (RB, Baltimore Ravens)
All eyes were on Ty’son Williams last night as he took the reins of a Ravens backfield reeling from injuries in his first NFL start ever and he didn’t disappoint. The former Tar Heel/Gamecock/Cougar looked electric last night, racking up close to 100 all purpose yards including a 35 yard scamper in the 1st quarter for a TD. Williams stirred up some hype in the preseason before all of the injuries to the Ravens RBs and now that he’s moved into the starter role it is reasonable to believe he could have a breakout season. Snag him off the waivers while you still can!
Elijah Mitchell (RB, San Francisco 49ers)
Raheem Mostert announced today that he will undergo surgery after suffering a knee injury against the Lions Sunday that should sideline him for about eight weeks. After Mostert went down, Mitchell took control of the backfield putting up 104 rush yards on 19 carries and a TD. Given the fact Trey Sermon was a healthy scratch for the game, it’s possible that Elijah Mitchell becomes the guy for San Fran moving forward and he’s definitely worth going after on the waiver wire just in case despite the competition.
Jameis Winston (QB, New Orleans Saints)
If your fantasy squad is in need of QB help I’d definitely give Jameis Winston a good hard look. People always seem to allow his penchant for throwing interceptions to overshadow the fact that he also led the league in passing yards (second in passing TDs) in 2019. Jameis went 14/20 last week, throwing for 5 TDs to 4 different receivers, no interceptions and 37 rushing yards. It seems like his decision making could be massively improving under Sean Payton and he’s definitely on a team that sets him up for success. Don’t let his hilarious personality overshadow his true potential to explode this year on a great offense.
Justin Fields (QB, Chicago Bears)
So realistically Justin Fields is probably rostered in your league already but it’s definitely worth checking just in case. Fields got his first taste of blood this weekend, rushing for his first career TD and looking poised during any snaps he was granted by Matt Nagy. It’s not a question of if but when he will take over for Andy Dalton so snag him now while you still can (if you still can) before the fireworks begin.
Nelson Agholor (WR, New England Patriots)
While Agholor isn’t a new name, he finds himself playing the veteran role in a young offense led by a QB teeming with potential. He’s still a consistent deep threat and he showcased that this weekend, accumulating 72 receiving yards on 5 receptions and a TD. I doubt Agholor ends up being the waiver wire pickup that wins you your league but he absolutely could be a depth builder on your team that gives you the edge you’re looking for on down weeks.
Other Players to Consider:
Bryan Edwards (WR, Las Vegas Raiders)
Jamaal Williams (RB, Detroit Lions)
Mike Williams (WR, LA Chargers)
Anthony Schwartz (WR, Cleveland Browns)
Jared Cook (TE, LA Chargers)
