Day 1 is… almost in the books. We’ve got some stragglers who still have to finish out the back end of their first round tomorrow morning due to the early weather delay but we’re sitting pretty at the moment. Virtually all of our futures are in play/beautiful right now, we might go undefeated with our first round finishing position props (shout out Bryson) and Shane Lowry still has two holes left to redeem himself. Meronk… shame. Weather shouldn’t be an issue tomorrow and we’re throwing some darts for tomorrow so strap in and always remember to bet smarter, not on Meronk.
Futures
| Player | Odds | Units |
| Will Zalatoris | +4000 | 0.15 |
I was tempted to add Zalatoris to our Outright Winners bet slip before the tournament started and after seeing how healthy he looked today I’m wasting no more time… The fact that we can still snag him at +4000 odds is absolutely nuts considering how absurdly good this guy plays in majors when he’s healthy. He’s finished 2nd and T6 in his previous Masters starts and he’s T9 currently… absurd. Thank god he bogied his last two holes today so we could get this value on him. Good looking out Will.
2nd Round Bets
2nd Round Matchups
Patrick Reed (-140) (1 unit) vs Tiger Woods
I know. Gross. Tiger is extremely lucky to be in red figures through 13 holes right now, he’s going to have to play 23 holes tomorrow on a bad back/leg and he’s barely played any competitive golf over the past few years in general. Patrick Reed, America’s sweetheart, might be universally hated for a multitude of reasons… but the man knows Augusta inside out and he’s picking up strokes on the field left and right throughout his first round so far. This is one of those grit plays where you just have to put emotions aside. Or don’t, I totally get that too… it’s Tiger. Tiger I hope you never read this.
2nd Round Props
Will Zalatoris – Under 71.5 Strokes (+115) (0.85 units)
If you couldn’t tell… I’ve officially hopped aboard the Zalatoris train. I encourage you to join. We’re talking 9 total rounds at Augusta, only 1 has ever been over par. 7/9 have been under par and one of those misses was an even par 72… The majors bridesmaid just might finally tie the knot this week and step 1 is a big Friday round. Can’t believe this is at plus odds.
Hideki Matsuyama – Lowest 2nd Round Score (+2800) (0.1 units)
Our absolute dart throw of the day. While it sucks that Hideki basically ruined any chances that he had of contending this week (literally right away)… this course does still suit his game quite nicely, he’s made a habit of following up terrible rounds with the best score of the following day and he has been trending in a direction that would suggest a very low round at a course like Augusta National over the last month. He’s exactly the type of player I’d take a flyer on in this scenario. To clarify… this course fits him better than most players in the field, he’s won here before, the expectations for him this week were massive (he’s failed in that regard) and he’s an absolute cut making machine… Hideki will definitely come out firing tomorrow.
Max Homa – 2nd Round Top 5 (+150) (0.4 units)/2nd Round Leader (+1100) (0.1 units)
We’ve all been waiting for Homa to break through in a major for awhile now and it might just be happening right before our eyes this week. Given his inconsistency in majors thus far, testing out my faith on a smaller Friday scale vs adding him to the outright winner conversation just yet. He does have to play 23 holes of golf tomorrow, but given his age and the stage of his career that honestly could be an advantage. If Homa picks up where he left off yesterday he easily could be our leader heading into the weekend.
