The regular season has concluded with the exception of the Army/Navy game on Saturday. If you live under a rock let me catch you up on what transpired last weekend. Undefeated Power 5 Conference Champion Florida State was snubbed from the College Football Playoff, with the only logical reason being their massive question mark at QB. Was it a fair decision? Absolutely not. Was it the right decision? If you like exciting games, the answer is unequivocally YES. Bama, Michigan, Washington and Texas will battle for all the glory starting on January 1st, and until then we have a slew of terrific bowl games. This week, just one game, and if you don’t watch Army/Navy you should be required to move to Canada. In some less important news, Jake went an impressive 0-5 last weekend torpedoing his season record down to 35-29-2 for +5.62 units. Q went 1-1 and sits at 24-19 for +3.88 units on the season. As always, bet smarter not harder.
DPJ’s Best Bets (After Week 14: 35-29-2, +5.62 units)
Army vs. Navy – Saturday, 12/9th (3:00pm EST) Gillette Stadium
Pick: Under 28.5 (1 unit ) (-105)
The entirety of my analysis comes down to one stat: unders in service academy games are 45-10-1 (82%) since 2005. I will not be picking against that trend, that’s for damn sure. Grab a cold beer, be sure to watch the pregame flyover, and enjoy some ugly football. ‘Merica. Score Prediction: Army 13 – Navy 10.
Q’s Best Bets (After Week 14: 24-19, +3.88 units)
Army vs Navy – Saturday, 12/9 (3:00 PM EST)
Pick: Army -2.5 (-110) (1 unit)
If it feels reckless to pick a side in this matchup, let’s not forget, Army absolutely dismantled a nationally ranked Air Force squad only weeks ago and has controlled the tempo in most of these games over the past 5 years. Both Army and Navy offenses should have advantages in the run game… but Army has shown a little more potential in their run stopping (despite the stats) considering they shut down the #1 run offense in the country to the point of embarrassment back in November (defeating Air Force 23-3). Tempted to take a side on the total here as well but given its historical low currently and higher scoring affairs between these two teams in recent years, happy to back the Black Knights to cover a field goal in this one. With the Commander’s Cup fully within their sights on Saturday, Go Army, Beat Navy. Score Prediction: Army 17 – Navy 13.
