Rough start… but we live to fight another day. Thursday’s round may have won the battle but our futures picks have definitely put us in position to win the war (shout out Tommy Fleetwood, our top sleeper pick for the week). Royal Liverpool’s weather forecast is looking dreary for the early starts tomorrow, which means opportunity for us. Set your alarms and prepare your caffeine, we strike at dawn. Bet smarter, not harder.
2nd Round 3 Ball Matchup
K.H. Lee (+150) (1 unit) vs Davis Riley vs Taiga Semikawa
Despite K.H. Lee’s first round, he’s actually playing pretty decent golf outside of his putting. He currently ranks inside the top 50 of the field for Strokes Gained: Around The Green and Strokes Gained: Off The Tee and he’s well separated from Riley/Semikawa regarding ball striking thus far. Semikawa isn’t the same caliber of player as Lee/Riley and, realistically, Lee is usually a much better putter than what he displayed on Thursday. Verdict? Very good chance Lee leaves this group in the dust tomorrow.
2nd Round Matchup
Russell Henley (+100) (0.5 units) vs Sam Burns
If it wasn’t for the Texas wedge, Henley would be contending right now. That said, the rest of his game is actually impressively consistent. Henley’s currently around the top 50 in the field for all categories with the exception of Strokes Gained: Putting (154th) and Strokes Gained: Around The Green (7th in the field). Burns has also been a magician around the green thus far but he currently ranks 133rd in Strokes Gained: Approach and 146th in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee (pretty important categories if I do say so myself). Only throwing half a unit on this out of respect for Burns’ ability, but don’t be surprised to see Henley throw up a low number on Friday.
2nd Round Prop
Rickie Fowler – To Score 71 or Better (+105) (1 unit)
If it wasn’t for a weird course nuance on the last hole of his round, Fowler would be under par going into Friday’s round. Rickie is one of the later tee times on Friday so there’s a good chance he faces favorable weather compared to the rest of the field and you know he’ll be looking to go low after a triple bogey tarnish on 18 today. Positive odds on one of the hottest players in the game to at least break even after an infuriating finish to his previous round (at a major)? Yes, please.
